Cars & Premium Cigars

Until the early 70s, Formula 1 racers looked just like a premium cigar. At that time Villiger Cigars had a Formula 1 car! Drag Racing was even part of Swisher's advertising until about 2000!

So what happened?

As premium cigar enthusiasts, we know how societal norms have changed, but it was technology that altered the shape of F1 cars. Around 1970 the Lotus type 72 car was introduced. The new design had a wedge shape with radiators in the sidepods. Tweaks and improvements to this basic design brought us to the current F1 vehicles - brakes in the wheel, wings, and rear air scoop. Drag racing vehicles may still look the same, but that technology has also changed substantially! While the cars raced in NASCAR have become more aerodynamic, they still remind one of the old racers. However, that technology is also much more advanced.

In no case, though, are cigars still associated with racing. However, premium cigars are still associated with cool cars (fast or not). Events pairing premium cigars with cool cars are regularly held in Kentucky, Tennessee, Detroit (of course), and even Lafayette! The Cars & Coffee Lafayette folks come out to Bailey's Cigar Room twice a year, while the Reguladores Cajun Heat Chapter has also started visiting (motorcycles). Both of these groups bring out vehicles from the exotic to the everyday! Whenever you get the chance, bring your vehicle to show off, or stop by just to support and check out the cool rides.

Speaking of support and cool rides...

Cars & Coffee Lafayette will kick off their Back-to-School Drive Saturday July 27th at Bailey's Cigar Room. Bring some school supplies to enter our Raffle! Requested items include (but are not limited to) Mesh/Clear Backpacks, Kleenex, Paper Towels, Clorox Wipes, Dry Erase Markers.

The event is 8-11AM, and you must be present to win raffle items.

Yep, Bailey's will open at 8AM on Saturday 27 July. Drive on over!
